Description

Shyrdak is believed to be a felt item with one of the most difficult manufacturing techniques.

It consists of two types of felt: a front side is made of skillfully carved pieces of colored felt featuring an original ornament and a back side is made of more durable felt attached to the front-side felt with special stitches.
The word “shyrdak” in translation from Kyrgyz means “stitches” as it is also stitched for greater durability of felt.

Shyrdak’s lifetime can exceed 15-20 years if used properly.
It is a 100% handmade item.

One of the differences between shyrdak and other carpets is an “yin and yang” technique when a pattern is made on one of the layers of colored felt which is covered with another layer during carving. As a result, two twin products or yin and yang are made.
